About Calvary Community Church

Our mission is to know Christ and make Him known. To know Christ is to know His heart for all people. All people are created in the image of God and are worthy of the dignity afforded to them as image bearers. Our statement of faith reminds us that “God commands us to love Him supremely and others sacrificially, and to live out our faith with care for one another, compassion toward the poor, and justice for the oppressed.”

We love God supremely; we love people sacrificially. This calls us to remember that God’s requirement for those who love Him is to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God (Micah 6:8). As believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, we strive to not show favoritism, remembering that mercy triumphs over judgment (James 2:1 and 13).

The Church has been entrusted with the message of the gospel and the gospel is good news for the poor, freedom for the prisoners, sight for the blind, and release for the oppressed, whatever their race or ethnicity (Luke 4:18). To know Christ is to know His heart for all the oppressed. To know God is to know His heart for love and justice for all people (John 3:16). This is the message of the cross. The gospel is the truth that Jesus came to save sinners, but it is also that all things will be restored in God’s time (Romans 8:19). Injustice will be corrected. Meanwhile, with the love of God, we are to make the gospel known among all people, bringing the truth of justice to light.

One day, all peoples will be praising God together as the family of God before the throne of God. There will be a multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language (Revelation 7:9). It is the message of the gospel, lovingly made known among all people, that will make this possible.

Because of the heart of God for all people and His call for us to extend mercy and not show favoritism, we look for ways to love as Christ would love and to speak as Christ would speak so that all people everywhere may know Him. We will love all people, whether around the world or in our hometowns, striving for reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:19). We will love our neighbors as we love ourselves, remembering that every person is our neighbor. We will continue to pray for peace among all people—the peace that can only come through the power of the gospel.
