About Skyline Presbyterian Church
-
Skyline is a church whose goal is to simply "Love God and Love People and Never Quit". We get that purpose from the Bible in Matthew 22 where it says, "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
We realize that Christ has made it so simple for us. But although it sounds so easy, we realize there needs to be a community around to support those who are striving to follow Christ's words in this world.
Our Core Beliefs
TRINITY:
This is always the central mystery of Christianity. We believe God is three persons (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) in One God.
INCARNATION:
The eternal Word of God in Jesus Christ. “In-car ne” = with flesh. Jesus is God with skin on.
JUSTIFICATION:
We are justified, made right with God, by Grace, by the saving gift of our Savior’s life, through Faith, in Jesus as the one Savior and Lord.
SCRIPTURE:
The final authority for salvation and the life of faith is our Bibles.
SOVEREIGNTY:
God is ultimately in charge.
ELECTION:
We are chosen by God for salvation and service.
COVENANT:
We don’t choose each other in the church. God chooses us and then puts us together. We may not necessarily even like each other at times, but God has given us to each other in Christ, and so we covenant, or make promises to order our lives according to the word of God.
STEWARDSHIP:
We are called to be faithful managers of God’s whole creation including our wealth. We are responsible to God to care for the life in this world.
SIN:
When we give our ultimate loyalty or commitment to any idea, thing or person instead of to our Sovereign God alone, that’s sin. It is missing the mark.
OBEDIENCE:
We are to act out the commitment we have made, seeking justice and living in obedience to God in Jesus Christ. To obey is to “walk the talk.”
