About Emmaus United Methodist Church of Stratford Hills
엠마오 교회는 1992년 11월 11일 다섯가정이 모여서 시작한 교회입니다. 약 1년간 그렇게 예배를 드리다가 1994년 3월 24일 연합감리교회에 가입하고 Ginter Park UMC에서 창립예배를 드렸습니다. 그리고 그해 6월말 어윤호 목사가 초대 목사로 파송을 받아 본격적인 교회 개척이 시작되었습니다. 파송 받은후 한달이 되어서 새벽기도와 제자훈련을 통하여 영적 양육을 시작하여 기도와 말씀을 통한 영성 훈련에 온성도들이 힘을 썼습니다.1995 년 성탈절 이후에는 성도들의 숫자가 늘어나서 Family Service의 채플로 이사를 했습니다. 그후 성도들의 힘을 모아 1997년 부활절에 Staples Mill Rd에 있는 아담한 교회로 처음으로 우리 자체 성전을 마련하고 감격의 헌당 예배를 드렸습니다.
2003 년에는 예배처소가 너무 작아서 새로운 본당을 지어 6월에 봉헌했습니다. 건축을 했음에도 불구하고 젊은층이 많은 엠마오 교회는 어린아이들이 많아 교회학교 교실의 필요성을 충족시키기에는 너무도 역부족 이었습니다. 그래서 기도하며 구하던중 하나님께서 Stratford Hills에 있는 크고 아름다운 건물을 주셨습니다.
Emmaus Church began on November 11, 1992, with five families gathering together. After worshipping in this manner for about a year, the church joined the United Methodist Church on March 24, 1994, and held its founding service at the Ginter Park UMC. Then, at the end of June of that year, Rev. Yoon-Ho Uh was commissioned as the first pastor, marking the beginning of full-scale church planting. One month after his commissioning, spiritual nurturing began through early morning prayer and discipleship training, and the entire congregation devoted themselves to spiritual discipline through prayer and the Word.
After the Feast of Holy Week in 1995, the number of members increased, so the church moved to the Family Service chapel. Subsequently, pooling the efforts of the congregation, we secured our first sanctuary—a modest church on Staples Mill Rd—on Easter 1997 and held a deeply moving dedication service.
In 2003, as the worship space became too small, we built a new main sanctuary and dedicated it in June. Despite having built the church, Emmaus Church, which has a large young population, was far too small to meet the need for Sunday school classrooms due to the large number of children. So, while we were praying and seeking, God provided us with a large and beautiful building in Stratford Hills.
