About Bethel Church of Houston
-
Bethel Church exists to glorify God by preaching and teaching His Word, the Bible -- desiring to see people everywhere changed into passionate, growing followers of Jesus.
Recognizing our absolute dependence upon the Holy Spirit, we prayerfully embrace these essential core values:
- We care about God and His glory.
- We care about the Bible and its authority.
- We care about the Gospel and its power.
- We care about people and their needs.
As a church of 500+ members, we come together throughout the week to not only study God's Word, but apply it in our lives - becoming the hands and feet of Jesus in and around the Houston community.
Come and join us on Sunday mornings to learn more about us and the God we serve. Our Children/Adult Bible Fellowships start at 10:10 am and we come together at 8:45 & 11:15 am in the Sanctuary for corporate worship.
We'd love an opportunity to serve you.
History
Established in 1962
With some eight families laying the groundwork, Bethel Church formed in 1962 with three purposes in mind:
- To win people to the faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior;
- To encourage individual Christians to attain more depth in Christian experience and to develop stronger Christian conviction and character;
- To provide the Houston area with a church that is elder led, Calvinistic in doctrine, and evangelistic in outreach.
Philip Blair Jones served as the first pastor. Dr. Edwin Blum became the senior pastor in January 1963. Dr. Robert A. Tolson became the senior pastor in August of 1971 and concluded his pastoral ministry at Bethel in 2001. Dr. Michael Boys, was Senior Pastor from September of 2002 to October of 2011.
God has transformed us from that original group of eight families in 1962 to our present fellowship of more than 600 believers. By His grace we continue to pursue the purposes on which we were founded for His honor and glory.
