About Concord United Methodist Church

What We Believe

Concord Church is a United Methodist Church. We believe in:

The Trinity -
The threefold nature of God as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

God -
one God who created the world and all that is in it; is sovereign and rules the universe; is loving and full of grace.

Jesus Christ -
was human and died when he was crucified; is the divine Son of God; was the Messiah and was risen from the dead by God and lives today as the risen Christ; is our Savior-he forgives our sins and we receive abundant life in him; is our Lord and we are called to be Christ to others.

The Holy Spirit -
is God's presence with us, comforts us, convicts us, and empowers us to live out God's will for our lives.

Human Beings -
God created us in His image; we can accept or reject a relationship with Him; to be fully human we need to be in relationship with God.

The Church -
is the body of Christ in mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ; is the communion of saints (past, present, and future disciples); is called to worship God and support its worshipers as they grow in faith.

The Bible -
is God's word and authority for our faith; we need to know and study the Old and New Testaments.

The Kingdom or Reign of God -
is present wherever God's will is done, wherever persons experience reconciliation, restoration, and healing; fulfillment of God's kingdom is still to come-the restoration and transformation of all creation; the church is called to be a witness to God's kingdom; we display the kingdom as we become more Christlike.

Sacraments -
Baptism and the Lord's Supper (Communion or Eucharist)
• Baptism - a symbol of new life and God's love and forgiveness of our sins; joins persons with the church and all Christians; persons of any age are baptized by sprinkling, immersion, or pouring; baptism is only received once in a person's life.

• The Lord's Supper - is a holy meal of bread, symbolic of the body of Christ, and wine, symbolic of the blood of Christ; celebrates the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus and our Christian unity; we give thanks for Christ's sacrifice and are empowered for mission and ministry; all who love Christ, seek repentance, and seek to live in peace with one another are welcome to share communion.
