About Congregational UCC

  • We are a part of the United Church of Christ (the “UCC”) and relate to the various constituent bodies and ministries of the UCC in a covenantal manner. We seek God’s will and to be faithful to God’s mission, attending to our responsibilities in relation to all expressions of the UCC. Our decisions are made in consultation and collaboration with other UCC covenantal bodies, including the Central Association, the Iowa Conference, and the General Synod of the UCC (click on the buttons at the bottom of each page to learn more). As a member of the Body of Christ, we are called to honor and respect the work and ministry of each other part; therefore, we listen, hear, and carefully consider the advice, counsel, and requests of others. In this covenant, we join the various bodies and ministries of the UCC to seek to walk together in all God’s ways even as we live out our own unique expression of the Christian faith.

    Our Purpose

We are a community of God's beloved dedicated to following the teachings of Jesus as we live our faith by loving and serving all of God's creation and striving for justice and peace throughout our community, our nation, and the world.

    Our Process

We seek to live out this identity by Educating Ourselves and Others, Living Our Faith in Our Daily Lives, and Reaching Out to Our Community.

    Our Focus

Our central focus at this time is developing relationships with our neighbors who are living in poverty.

Throughout scripture God displays a preferential option and regard for "the poor" who are so often oppressed by those in power. Jesus is often seen addressing the economic disparities of his time and called his earliest followers to care for those were materially poor; indeed many of his earliest followers were peasants and on the lowest rungs of the socio-economic ladder. So, as we seek to follow the teachings of Jesus, we are called to develop relationships with our neighbors who are living in material poverty, to love and to serve them as valued members of God’s creation, and to join in partnership together to seek socio-economic peace and justice in our community, our state, our nation, and the world.
