About Church of St. Benedict

Wherever you are on your faith journey, you are welcome at St. Benedict. May you feel the presence of the Holy Spirit in this place! Here, you have found a diverse and engaged faith community that welcomes all kinds of people and families.
We were named after St. Benedict of Nursia, who wrote a "rule of life" for monks and nuns that placed hospitality, community, and prayer at the center of a holy life. We seek to practice those same values in this place.
Sunday morning worship is at 9am and attracts 60-90 people each week: men, women, children, older, younger, well-dressed, casually-dressed, gay, straight, disabled, divorced, single, married, faithful, doubting, from Bolingbrook, Plainfield, Naperville, Romeoville, Downers Grove, and the Joliet area.
St. Benedict is a part of The Episcopal Church and the worldwide Anglican Communion. The Episcopal tradition values the beauty of traditional liturgy or worship. The celebration of communion is at the center of our worship service every Sunday. We believe communion, or the Eucharist, is a meal where Christ offers us his presence and his love and all who seek to know Christ are welcome to receive the blessed bread and wine. We follow the Anglican practice of the "middle way" or via media, believing that truth isn't usually found at the extremes, but somewhere in the middle, leading us to be a community of acceptance and inclusiveness in the midst of our diversity.
We are smaller than many churches in our community. However, our small size is also a strength: we value friendships, we celebrate each other's individuality, we look to each other as ministers and not just to our priest. We believe, as our bishop, Jeff Lee, teaches, that BAPTISM = MINISTRY. We are all called to serve God's world.
You are welcome to contact us if you have any questions. Whatever you bring "” questions, hurt, doubt, joy "” you are welcome here.
