Second Baptist Church of Richmond Heights mission is to move forward the ministry of Christ through worship, service, and discipleship by Evangelizing the Sinner, Equipping the Saints, and Elevating the Savior.
Vision
Our vision is to create a multigenerational, multiethnic, and multicultural Church that will be the catalyst for the community as we move forward with kingdom-focused activities.
History
In 1964, thirteen men joined Rev. Ferguson in Richmond Heights equipped only with the words of our Lord and a verse from the hymn, “The Church is One Foundation” and a Church was born. Thus Second Baptist was officially organized and chartered by the State of Florida on May, 17, 1964. The organizational structure included 4 selected deacons, four trustees, a finance committee, a Deaconess Board, Usher Board, Senor Choir, and Pastor’s Aide.
Rev. Ferguson retired from ministry on October31, 2000. He passed on the Overseer mantle for Second Baptist Church of Richmond Heights to Rev. Alphonso Jackson Sr. who was installed on November 12, 2000.
To date, Second Baptist has grown to over three thousand plus members who worship in a 1.2 million dollar Sanctuary. Its auxiliaries have increased to include over 31 ministries and its service to the community has extended to now include daycare and after school services, referral services for health, counseling, workforce development, legal representation, and employment referral opportunities.
Because of Rev. Ferguson’s vision and Rev. Jackson’s commitment to Christ, Second Baptist will continue to be a beacon in the community where it strives to meet the overwhelming needs of the community and win lost souls. To God be the Glory!
