About Saint Thomas the Hermit Coptic Orthodox Church
-
St. Thomas the Hermit Coptic Orthodox Church is the first church under this saint outside of Egypt. While the history of this great saint is deeply rooted in the lands of Egypt with various monasteries and churches such as the Monastery of St. Thomas in the Akhmeem Bishopric of the Sohag Governate, this is the first church outside of Egypt.
St. Athanasius, a defender of faith and the 20th Pope of Alexandria says “Orthodoxy is what Christ taught, the disciples preached, and the fathers kept”. The Coptic Orthodox Church is one of the oldest churches in the world, dating back to the early years of Christ. It spread through the lands of Egypt by the teachings of St. Mark the Evangelist, who, as the doxology says, came and enlightened us through the Holy Gospel.
St. Gregory of Nazianzus, says that the Lord has no need of my servitude but rather I have need of His lordship. Nevertheless, Christ came to serve and not be served. Our Lord teaches us that whatever we do for man, we do for Him.
