About Port City Church of Christ

Our Mission:

Port City Church Exists to give real hope through Jesus Christ to real people facing life in the real world.

Our Beliefs

About God

We believe that there is only one God; He is holy, eternal, sovereign, and loving. We believe that he is the creator and ruler of the universe and he created all things for His glory. God exists as three equal personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

About Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God and was with the Father in the beginning.

We believe that Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah, “the anointed one”), that He was born of a virgin and became flesh and dwelt among men, and that Our salvation is through Him alone. He was sent to fully reveal to us who God is and to reconcile us to God.

We believe that Jesus lived a sinless life, and gave himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. We believe that he rose from the dead three days later to demonstrate his power over sin and death.

About the Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is the personal, powerful Presence of God throughout history and is still active today.

We believe the work of the Spirit is to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement. We believe that He lives in every Christian from the moment they are baptized, that He draws us toward God to save us, and that He dwells in us as our helper, intercessor, and guide.

The Holy Spirit gives us power for living, the ability to understand spiritual truths, and guidance for doing what is right. He continuously transforms us into increasing holiness as we daily yield our will to His.

About the Bible

We believe that the Bible is God’s word to us. it is the inspired written word of God and is eternally true.

We believe that the Bible was written by people under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and that it reveals who God is, who we are, and why we are here.

We believe that the Bible is provided so that we might know Jesus our Savior and that it shows us the standard for living our lives according to God’s will.

About Man

We believe God created man as both male and female in His image.

We believe the whole duty of man is to glorify God.

We believe that all of us have the potential to do this, but we all stop short because we have sin in our lives. This Sin breaks our relationship with God, though we can be reconciled to God through a relationship with His Son.

About Salvation and Eternity

We believe everyone has a soul that will exist after our physical death forever in either Heaven or Hell.

We believe that before time began, God planned to save us from our sins through the death of Jesus Christ.

We believe that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ provides the payment for our sins and allows us to be presented as righteous before the Father.

We believe that salvation is God’s free gift of grace—it cannot be earned. We believe those who reject this gift of grace are eternally separated from God.

We believe Man’s response to this gift is faith (placing our trust in God) demonstrated by repentance, confession, baptism by immersion, and a life of obedience to Him.

About the Church

We believe all those who respond to the Lord’s calling, submit to Jesus as Lord, and are added by Him make up the Church, the household of God.

We believe that it is our goal as believers to strive to be Christ-like, to be kind, and to be loving so we have a very positive influence on our world.

We believe that the Church is the body of Christ on earth—God’s spiritual family and that each member is gifted by God to serve and strengthen the body.

We believe that the church is called to worship God, equip believers for works of service, and to preach the gospel “making disciples of all nations.”
