About Eastern Shore Baptist Church

  • What We Believe

    The VISION based in THEOLOGY

The Bible: God Is An Author

The Bible is God’s inerrant Word. Written over 1500 years by 40 different authors on 3 different continents, the Bible is perfect. Because the Bible is inspired, it is absolutely true and is completely useful for every person, in every situation, for every day. The Bible is the doorway to salvation.

    2 Timothy 3:16
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

The Trinity: God Is Three In One

God exists in a relationship with Himself. This relationship has existed for all eternity. The relationship had no beginning and will never end. God exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Each member of the Trinity serves different functions. Likewise, each person possesses equal power and authority.

    Deuteronomy 6:4
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.”

    II Corinthians 13:14
“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

God The Father: God is Great, God is Good

God is great. He is all knowing, all powerful, ever present. He never changes. In God, we live, move, and breathe. We can completely trust Him. God is good. He is loving and compassionate. He is faithful to His people and to the promises He has made to them. Above all, God is Holy.

    Acts 17:28
“For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.”

    Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

God The Son: Emmanuel, God With Us

Jesus Christ is the exact personal image of the invisible God. He is the perfect mixture of the divine and humanity. He is the only plan to bringing the enemies of God, humans, back into a perfect relationship with God. He lived a perfect life in order that He might be a substitution for us. His sacrifice satisfied a righteous and just God. His death and resurrection defeated spiritual death and provides hope in the face of physical death.

    Colossians 1:15
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.”

    Galatians 4:4-5
“But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.”?

God The Holy Spirit: God is a Counselor

His presence assures us of our relationship with Christ. He guides, convicts, and comforts. He enables the believer to do mighty works of God. He is the still small voice. The Holy Spirit is the promised divine counselor that takes up residence in our hearts and minds.

    Romans 8:9-11
“You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.”

    Eternity: Somewhere Forever

Man was created to live forever. Man will either live forever with God or eternally separated from God. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be with God is Heaven. Heaven and Hell are eternal destinations. Humanity possesses a free will choice as to what type of eternity they will experience.

    John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

    Man: Made In God’s Image

Man is made in the image of God and is the supreme object of His creation and affection. Man was created to have fellowship with God, but because of sin, man is separated from God and unable to restore the broken relationship. Every human personality is uniquely created, possessing dignity, and is worthy of respect and Christian love.

    Colossians 1:21-22
Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation—

    Salvation: One Way

The blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the only way of salvation through the forgiveness of sin. Salvation occurs when people place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin. Salvation is a gift from God and it cannot be earned through our own efforts. Salvation includes: the regeneration of the human soul, repentance from sin, justification by God to man, the process of sanctification, and culminates in the glorification of God.

    Romans 1:16-17
“I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

The Church: God’s Plan For Community

The church is a local community of baptized believers unified through faith in Christ. It is committed to SHOWING Christ to the world through evangelism, GROWING the local church through discipleship, fellowship and worship, and GOING for Christ through missions. The Church works together in love and unity, intent on the ultimate purpose of glorifying Christ.

    Ephesians 2: 19-22
“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.”

    Baptism: It’s What We Do

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Being a church ordinance, it is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and to the Lord's Supper.

    Acts 2:38
“Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

    Romans 6:3-5
“Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

Our Vision - A Call To Show Christ

    Matthew 9:37-38
“Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Our Mission - A Commitment To Grow In Christ

    Acts 2: 42-47
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”

Our Goal - A Charge To Go For Christ

    Matthew 28: 18-20
“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
